Cast Retail Typeface
November 2018—February 2020
Capraia is the first typeface I designed for Cast Foundry, I followed the entire process
from first sketching to font compiling and engineering. It is a book typeface, with a heavily quirky look when shown at big sizes,
and with an irregular but attractive rhythm at text sizes. Capraia Book and Regular are designed specifically
for continuous texts: Book meets a current preference of Italian publishers for lighter faces,
while the slightly heavier Regular is intended for the wider international market.

Satyro started from a close study of Francesco Griffo's typeface for the Hypnerotomachia Poliphili,
printed by Aldo Manuzio in 1499, for whom Griffo cutted his typeface.
I drew inspiration from these letterforms, sometimes taking a
step from them like in setting the calligraphical axes, and kind of revival them, also making a stencil version.
The aim of the text family is to work at his best at body sizes, while the stencil family is some fancy toy for display means.

An open source and generative typeface designed during the last edition of XYZ,
a cooperative design workshop held in Bari (Italy) by La Scuola Open Source,
as the corporate font for Officina degli Esordi, one of the most important cultural containers
of southern Italy. All the typefaces are generated by a special notational and programming system.
First, a text file is designed to depict the glyph, then, a python script scan the file
and applies basic shapes (randomly) to it.

Trilogy is inspired by Spaghetti Western
headtitles designed by Iginio Lardani in the 60s for the Dollars Trilogy by Sergio Leone. I did not want
this to be a redesign so I didn't replicate any particular letterform but I tried just to interpret Lardani's sensibility
in juxtaposing typefaces and shapes to build the Spaghetti mood.

Revival-ish project started from a close look to some catalogues of typefaces
from the phototype era, especially the Visual Graphic Corporation's one. Additionaly 8 (which is a hommage to Eightball, one on the main inspirations)
resembles some typefaces from the 70s psychedelic rock scene and its poster design.

Smith&Son draws inspiration from some serif typefaces and inscriptions
by Gill. Regular is almost a revival of a serif typeface designed by Eric Gill
in 1905 as a guide for signwriters (the name took origin from the client: W.H. Smith & Son) while
italic is more based on some carved inscriptions and his Perpetua.

April 2017—ongoing
A display typeface I designed as the output of the workshop “Type Design Starter Kit
— A Suprematist Process” held by Luciano Perondi and Alessio D’Ellena at La Scuola Open Source.
I am currently trying to complete the set and make a variable font from it.
